Beer Pro - Steven Vazquez
Beerhead Bar & Eatery - Elmhurst

Resident Beer Pro

Name: Daniel Sayer

Date Started: August 2019

What got you interested in Beer: My Grandfather owned a pub, and I became aware of the CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) while attending university in England with the huge amount of cask ale available. I sampled many throughout my university education, and dabbled in homebrewing. When I moved to the US, the craft beer movement was really just beginning to take off. I continued brewing for myself at home, and I got in on the ground floor working for a few Cleveland area breweries and making my way into the brewing side of things.

What is your favorite beer: I will drink pretty much anything and don’t particularly have 1 favorite beer, however, style wise I tend to lean towards darker color, but lighter body. I’m a big fan of black IPAs and black lagers. They’re a little harder to find but it’s always a treat when I do. I’ll never turn down a good Schwarzbier or Vienna lager. If I could get Black Knight by Fat Head’s every day, I’d be a happy man!

What makes Beerhead special: You won’t find another collection of beer as wide and varied in downtown Cleveland. Ranging from an extensive collection of local beers, to some of the lesser known Belgian and German brewers. Our staff are knowledgeable enough that we can find something for everyone, either on draft or in a can or bottle. It’s not just the beer, we have a variety of food and big enough portions to satisfy any appetite (get the barbarian pretzel).

What would you like the world to know about Beerhead: There’s always something fun going on. Whether it’s live music, sports on the tv, or a beer event with reps. You can keep up to date on our events on our social media channels, or swing by and we’ll be more than happy to fill you in.

Anything else quirky and fun: I used to work in musical theatre and also spent time in the circus. I am currently working towards becoming a certified Cicerone® by ‘studying’ as much beer as possible.

Favorite food to eat with Beer: Pizza or tacos. Nothing like a cold, clean lager and some tacos al pastor.

What is your favorite local brewery (beer and why): In the immediate Cleveland area, I have a soft spot for Fat Head’s. They were one of my first introductions to the Cleveland craft beer scene, and they make some killer beer too. They make every style well, from big heavy hops to crisp lagers. On a slightly wider (but still Ohio) scale Jackie O’s barrel aging program is something to behold.
